Things seem to be going pretty well. With 16 episodes aired already, less than ten episodes remain, and since FUNimation has not done anything to irritate me, it looks like I can still cover the Railgun simulcast at a decent time. Today, I will be reviewing A Certain Scientific Railgun S episode 17.
As I have given a series synopsis in an earlier post, I will not go over it again.
Misaka and friends decide to have a get-together.
However, while most of them are enjoying themselves before the scheduled time, Misaka runs into some familiar faces.
I am not too sure about this one. I did like that there were a few funny scenes. For example, while Misaka and about, she encountered Melterdowner and Frenda. However, Kuroko, who was going to end the tension between Misaka and the other girls, ends up getting in an argument with Frenda over whether Meltdowner or Misaka win in a fight, thus making the situation worse. What makes it so funny is that Kuroko did not know that the two already fought each other and both Misaka and Meltdowner get embarrassed about the things that Kuroko and Frenda were saying about them. I would not blame either of them about their embarrassment. After all, the four of them are in a public setting. Then again, it would not have been any better in a private setting, considering how mad Misaka got a Kuroko in the first season for having a pair of her underwear. I also found it funny how Kuroko and Kongo went to a pet store together. While shopping around, Kongo mentions that she needs some food for Ekaterina and Kuroko realizes that she was talking about her pet snake. Now, going to get food for a pet is not unusual, but it did remind me of the time that Misaka and Kongo went to the pet store at the beginning of the Daihaseisai arc and I think that this scene was a bit funnier than that. Outside of that, I cannot really think of anything else that particularly enjoyed. The humor present was good enough to make this enjoyable.
Although there were things to like, there are certainly some issues. However, only one thing comes to mind. This episode did not really seem that interesting. I know that the Sisters Arc is over and the girls do deserve a break before the new danger arrives, but I think that there should be something happening, like how there were earthquakes that happened every once and a while before the Poltergeist arc started in the first season. Here, however, it was just an extended portion of the aftermath of the Sisters Arc. As nice as it is know all of this stuff, I think that this should have been combined with the previous episode, because having more than two episodes of aftermath is kind of dumb. On the other hand, since it does not really mess things up for this series, I will just label it a minor issue. While the episode does seem a bit pointless, the dullness does not really hurt things too much.
Despite the fact that the episode was not really that interesting, the humor present makes it good enough to kill the time waiting for the next arc to begin. I only recommend this to fans of A Certain Scientific Railgun.
