Luckily, I did not forget about this show. I was preoccupied with a few other things, such as reading the books that I have recently reviewed. As for The Sims 3 story, consider it abandoned. Anyway, today, I am going to review episode 7 of Another.
As I gave a series synopsis in an earlier post, I will not go over it again.
In this episode, a teacher has taken out a knife in front of the students, after saying that he cannot handle things anymore. The students are all scared because they do not know what is going to happen. Instead of killing the students, the teacher stabs himself in the neck and in front of his students. Because of this, the students realize that making two people nonexistent did not help the situation. Later, Kouchi and Misaki ask Chibiki for details on why the incident of 15 years ago stopped midway, which Kouchi's classmates are also wondering.
Honestly, I really enjoyed this episode more than the last one. The creepy atmosphere seems to make a return again because of both the death that had occurred and Kouchi's nightmare being an all red background and blood coming from his fellow students. I was also surprised that one of my possibilities that I mentioned last episode was somewhat correct in that the static happens when talking about or to the nonexistent, since there was no static in the conversation between Kouchi and his father after he was acknowledged again. What was really surprising though was that the incident from 15 years prior stopped while the students were on a trip, then attempting the same trip at a later time to see if it did anything. I think I remember Reiko discussing a trip one time and Kouchi seemed to recall it when Chibiki brought it up as well. However, the assistant homeroom teacher, Mikami, was acting a bit strange too. She tells the students that they will be taking a trip, but she stares out into emptiness for a brief moment. Because of Reiko could not remember what happened 15 years ago and Mikami looking shock after announcing the upcoming trip, I think that something did happen. There could be a connection between Reiko and Mikami, but I am not going to say anything because it falls within spoiler territory. The creepy atmosphere seems to have returned and the mystery of what connects Reiko and Mikami to 15 years ago both add points back in favor of this show, which took a hit because of the last one and the fact that the creepy atmosphere was almost nonexistent the episode before that.
I cannot really think of anything bad about this episode, but I really do hope that things stay like this for the next few episodes, considering that next episode will the mark 2/3 of the way through the show. Having 1/6 of the show not being scary is better than 1/4 or 1/3 being the same way, when it comes to horror.
With nothing bad to say about this episode, I think the show is coming back up to good quality. Because of the return of the creepy atmosphere, I will cautiously recommend this series to horror fans, knowing that it could take a dive again in the horror department. The mystery aspect has stayed strong throughout the series though, so I still recommend this to fans of mystery.
