Anime Review: A Certain Scientific Railgun S Episode 4

May 5, 2013

Even though I may have been late in covering Detective Conan (Case Closed), though it was still within my promised timeframe, I sure am glad that nothing kept me from the catching simulcast I decided to cover. Today, I will be reviewing A Certain Scientific Railgun S episode 4.

As I have given a series synopsis in an earlier post, I will not go over it again.

After having infiltrated a facility, Misaka is relieved that there are no clones of her running about, despite the fact that the girl she met that night was involved in a mass-cloning project.

However, Misaka may be jumping to conclusions, as her friends are talking about clones, and she even detects a power similar to hers.

I kind of liked this episode. Unlike the previous one, which I did not seem to feel the excitement, I liked how this made me somewhat forget everything that Misaka got herself wrapped up in. There were also some pretty funny parts. The funniest though was Misaka being Misaka. One day, when Misaka had nothing to do, the kids she met during the Level Upper Arc asked her to come play with them and she end up trying to get a badge of her own, and onlookers think that she is trying to get a badge for the kids. It is kind of funny because that would be exactly what people would think if children surrounded a girl at a machine. After all, I do not really think that there are very many women out there, at least decent ones, that would not want to help out children and/or make them happy. At the same time, they cannot over indulge the kids, unless the woman is their grandmother, of course, since they are responsible for helping children understand how the world works. I also liked how Kuroko was not very annoying this episode. In the last episode, even though Kuroko was being Kuroko, I just could not really stand her. Here, however, she was quite tame and worried about Misaka. Other than fighting, this is another side of Kuroko I prefer to see. It makes me think that she really is a good friend. It was also nice to see Misaka with all of her. In the manga counterpart, I hardly remember seeing anybody after it was revealed that Nunotaba Shinobu was revealed to be involved in creating clones of Misaka, as well as the person responsible for leaving out cash cards, Misaka and Kuroko were the only people I ever saw out of Misaka's group. As much as I usually like things to be faithful to the manga, as is the case with Detective Conan (Case Closed), I really like how we get to see what everyone else is up to. In fact, it was quite nice that the talk of clones was not just between Kuroko and Misaka, though I think that Kuroko's positive outlook about the idea was very funny. Speaking of clones, Misaka seemed to react in the same kind of way that I would probably react if I were to see myself in situation where I there not any reflective surfaces, such as a mirror or window. I guess it is nice that we cannot encounter ourselves, but that would be different if there was not anything to prevent such an occurrence. Of course, that means that she cannot continue believing that there are not any clones of her running around. The fact that we get see what the rest of the gang is use up to, instead of just Misaka and Kuroko talking about clones, as well as the fact that it makes me forget what Misaka is going through, makes this an enjoyable episode.

Although I liked the episode, there are certainly some issues. However, as I cannot really think of anything to complain about, I will have to say that there is nothing worth mentioning.

Considering how things felt relaxing and that I cannot think of anything I did not like, this was definitely worth watching. I only recommend this to fans of A Certain Scientific Railgun.
