Well, since I finally caught up to the official English translation of the Detective Conan (Case Closed) manga, I guess I have to fulfill my promise, huh? I am not too sure how well I will do, but there will be a minimum of a 3-5 day waiting period on reviews on the anime episodes of Detective Conan (Case Closed). If you guys want me to go back to as I view them, I will, if enough comments request it. Not all posts will fall under this same waiting period.
Anyway, with that said, I have passed the halfway point of FUNimation's first season of Case Closed and only ten episodes remain in the first season. Overall, 109 episodes remain (115 in FUNimation's count). Today, I will be covering Case Closed episode 16 (Detective Conan episode 15).
As I have given a series synopsis in an earlier post, I will not go over it again.
The Junior Detective League, thinking that were going to live the high-life, are bored because nobody has hired them to do a case. Just when Jimmy thought of an idea to gain publicity, somebody comes in wanting help in finding a missing cat. However, when they find it, Jimmy and the gang find a corpse in a bathroom. When neither the owner nor the police, after doing an investigation of the premises, believe them, Jimmy decides to investigate further. Now, the body must be found, unless the Junior Detective League wants the stain on their reputation to be permanent.
I liked this episode quite a bit. The fact that the Junior Detective League seriously thought that they would be so successful is quite funny. In fact, it reminds me of the dumb writers these days who seem to have no knowledge of technology, as well as the fact that almost nothing can be either 100% or 0%. Of course, they tend to be the ones who feel that they are entitled to be paid for whatever they dish out. Even though that is not the focus of this post, I feel that it is a worthy mention here. No matter what one does, if they want guaranteed success, they need to rethink why they are looking to make a profit off of what they like to do. After all, one day, that person will be too focused on the money that they will forget why they wanted to write or do whatever else it was they dreamed to do. No amount of classes will ever hide such hints in your work from your fans. Anyway, time to get back to the episode. This episode truly had very little onvious and not in the traditional way one would expect a whodunit mystery. We have a body that disappears and led to believe that there are two suspects. However, what impressed me the most was that the setup with this mystery truly a unique one. Most of the time, we would expect murderers to try and hide a corpse and/or create fake alibis. However, the way that the corpse was hidden was something that seemed very rare in my experience with the detective, mystery, and crime genres. In fact, the first and only time I remember encountering such a thing was in this series. As it would be a major spoiler, I am not going say exactly how it was hidden. On the other hand, I will say that it is not something that will be the first to come to anybody's mind. As with most of the cases involving the Junior Detective League, there is a bit of humor that also makes this episode enjoyable, but not as much as what make the case so great. The fact that the way the corpse is hidden and very little is obvious makes this a great episode.
Although I liked the episode, I acknowledge that there are faults. At the same time, I cannot really think of anything that would ruin the quality of this episode. Because of this fact, I will say that there is not anything bad worth mentioning.
Considering the fact that the way the corpse was hidden and very little was obvious, I would definitely say that this episode was worth watching. I would recommend this to fans of Detective Conan (Case Closed), as well as fans of detective, mystery, and crime. As for everyone else, I think this is a good introduction to the series and the detective, mystery, and crime genres.
What are your thoughts on Case Closed episode 16? Do you agree or disagree with my views? Do you have anything to add? Feel free to comment.
