Anime Review: Case Closed Episode 18

September 17, 2012

Looks like doing these every 3-5 days is not that difficult. On the other hand, I think that has something to do with the fact that I had gotten the new Sims 3 expansion pack. Anyway, today I am going to review Case Closed episode 18 (Detective Conan episode 17).

As I have already given a series synopsis in an earlier post, I will not go over it again.

After having seen a show and getting autographs and pictures, Jimmy and the Junior Detective League are about to go back home when George realizes that he left the autograph he got back at the department. Although Jimmy says that they can get it another time, George gets too anxious and decides to go back for. However, when they do find it, they are trapped in the building and discover that some burglary ring has made its move. Now, they must either find a way out or capture the burglars.

I am not really too sure about this one. All I can really think that was great was the humor of everything. For example, Rachel was worried that Jimmy had never returned and neither did the Junior Detective League, but Richard was more concerned about getting a bite to eat. It really made me think of how he could have possibly raised Rachel well when he shows such a lack of concern for the kids. My own guess is that even by now Richard considers Jimmy a nuisance. Unfortunately him, Jimmy is the one keeping Richard in business. I was also pretty funny that Jimmy was able to make the burglars think the cops were already there. Outside of the funny parts, there was not much great about the episode.

Although the episode was funny, it does not really make up for its faults. Honestly, I did not really feel that much excitement. I just felt like everyone was just playing around and not enough was serious. Of course, that is bound to happen when we have a filler episode, which this episode is, according to Detective Conan World. In fact, I never really got the desire to solve anything in this episode because of the lack of excitement. At least I get that excitement from episodes that adapt cases from the manga, such as episode 5. Speaking of having no desire to solve anything, there really was not a mystery to be found here. When I first saw this episode, I probably liked it, but now that I have experience with the detective, mystery, and crime fiction genres, things were a bit too obvious. Anyone who does not suspect employees of businesses, especially in this episode truly do not deserve to call themselves fluent in the detective, mystery, and crime fiction. Really, the only mystery here, which should be obvious to everyone by now, and that was not even a really big shock in any category. Since the only redeeming thing is the humor, this episode is not really that great.

Despite the fact that the humor was good, I cannot really say that this episode was worth the time. I recommend this to only the Detective Conan (Case Closed) fans who like the Junior Detective League, as well as those that want a break from all the murder and kidnapping cases in the series. As for the other fans of Detective Conan (Case Closed), as well as fans of detective, mystery, and crime, I recommend skipping this episode because it was pointless.
