Remembrance of a Companion

January 13, 2012

I thought that I would start writing this later, but before I forget some stuff, I decided to start writing on this subject. On the week of Dec. 13, 2011, the best companion I ever had experienced a stroke. That day, I had thoughts of putting her down, but the vet said to see how things went until Monday, Dec. 19, 2011. When Monday came around, The vet said she was dying, which was not a surprise due to her heart troubles, but the vet said that it was not the heart that was bringing the inevitable. Today's post is in remembrance of my best companion, Maggie.

I do not remember much about when she first joined the family. However, I did not get along well with her, due to a previous bad experience with a dog. I do remember that she was still a puppy at the time. However, I eventually came around to liking the fact that she was around. Like all puppies, she was a handful, yet fun to play around with.

She had been in my life throughout most of my K-12 period, which is a period, that I now hate because I know its real purpose. At times, I found her a pest, even in late 2011, I sometimes considered her one. However, I was glad that she was around.

My family and I would periodically take her for walks, many of those times I hated because I was not given a choice. After all, I find it better to accept the consequences of what one chooses. I'll admit that such thinking is kind of greedy, but I do not think that parents ever teach true gratitude.

At one time, she had a rope toy which she would play tug of war with and. She did not really win a whole lot against me because I was quite aggressive with her in those things.

The last thing I remember of those days, since I do not want this going too long, was that Maggie kept getting to her bowl too quickly, so I had to tease her, in order to make sure that I was always first to her bowl.

Back on the week of Dec. 13, 2011, when she experienced a stroke, I started a bit of looking back at the good times, prepared to put her down.

On the week of Dec. 20, 2011, when the vet claimed that she was dying, I went on a walk with her and experienced a small miracle of her making it around the block and then some, even though the person accompanying me and I did not think she could. For those that say miracles do not exist, miracles happen all the time. One will not see what they are unless they look for them.

Even as I typed this, I did not want her to die before having her last Christmas. After all, she has provided great companionship. However, you guys may never find out if she does last until then, as this was written in the week of Dec. 20, 2011 and I plan to only post this once she dies.

Maggie in for her final visit to the vet on Jan. 13, 2012

Maggie officially died on Jan. 13, 2012, a day which many consider bad luck, supposedly due to what happened to the Knights Templar. As such, I have edited some things and added this little paragraph on the said date. I was able to take her on two more walks the days before the 12th. For that, I am glad. Goodbye and thank you for being there, Maggie.
